I just found these outfits that I created 5+ years ago and LOVE THEM AS MUCH TODAY if not more because today I can appreciate and respect how carefully I considered each look and chose each item with purpose for specific occasions in my mind.
At the time, though happy with these mini-works that were then also shoppable, I felt completely shy and uncomfortable sharing them. The concept of social media and personal blogging was new and felt foreign to and contrived for me… Yet, as I began to put them out there without expectation, just to share with anyone interested, I began to gain confidence little by little in my own voice and enjoyed the invitation of conversation that might not have happened otherwise. My blog, too, became an outlet for and dialogue with myself as it helped me to lay down in front, see and therefore define certain ideas and concepts swirling in my head.
Figuring out what how and why to share, especially virtually is a struggle, but two things I heard recently perfectly define a great filter before sharing, both in the world and in the world, virtually speaking. The first was during “The Class” by Taryn Toomey when one morning last spring, she asked the group, “As you put yourself out in the world – think- are you showing or sharing?” The next arrived in my son’s 1st grade class newsletter and further elaborates on “what to share”… His teacher wrote: This week we are continuing to T.H.I.N.K. before we speak: T stands for: “is it True?” H stands for: “is it Helpful?” I stands for: “is it Inspiring?” N stands for: “is it Necessary? And K stands for: “is it Kind?” If the answers to these questions are yes, then we should share with the group!
To that, I am back on the blog:
For three days I have been rather sleeplessly running out the door with the children for school drops dressed in workout clothes with every (if I am honest non-) intent to exercise. Re-discovering these looks today has reminded me of the genuine pleasure I get from styling and are inspiring me to get properly and thoughtfully dressed (after I sneak in a run or stream a Tracy Anderson ????).
Hope you enjoy these looks as much as I am today xx✨
